Gokudera is a friend and right-hand man (or what he keeps on claiming to be) of Tsuna. He has an obsession with being a right-hand man and most especially in alien-related stuff or cryptozoology. He is also known in school as a rebellious “badboy” which is adored by many female students. But aside from his bad traits, he is actually a genius and knows how to play the piano. He idolizes Tsuna and due to this he treats any of Tsuna’s friends as enemies who are trying to attack him but later on he becomes friendly with them while staying cool.

He actually has a sibling, a half-sister who goes by the name of Bianchi, and due to a past traumatic experience (he was fed with a poisonous food by her though not deadly) whenever he sees her, he gets sick or fall unconscious but he can be immune to her if she wears something that partly covers her looks (mainly her eyes). He seems to have some trouble expressing his feelings to others except to Tsuna.

He uses dynamites as his specialty and even conceals them under his clothes though he has troubles in using them. He learned how to improve his specialty after meeting Dr. Shamal. He can now use the Rocket Bombs; an improvised dynamite that can act as a rocket and explodes on impact. This solves his problem with pinpointing the distance between himself and his target and also synchronizing the amount of time for the dynamite to explode.

During the Ring Conflict arc, he was given the Vongola Ring of the Storm by Tsuna’s father and appointed the position as the Vongola Guardian of the Storm. He fought against Belphegor, an elusive member of Varia, during the Ring Conflict. Their battlefield is the whole level of the school building and some hi-powered fans that simulates a strong wind turbulence in which the whole place will explode after a set time. Gokudera manages to survive but he lost the ring after Belphegor went mad and took his ring by force.

In the Future arc, he gained the Sistema C.A.I. (Sistema Cambio Arma Instanteneo – Italian for Instantaneous Arms Rearrangement System) Box Weapon from his future self. This is a complex weapon compose of a number of box weapons and this box weapon utilizes the five different Dying Will flames that he has within his body (Storm, Rain, Lightning, Cloud, and Sun) to form different types of attack, one of them creates a shield or barrier using Lightning flames and a machine gun type of attack using Sun flames.

The Vongola Box of the Storm he got from his future self includes the Sistema C.A.I. and a cat which he named Uri as his box animal.

During the Succession arc, he undergoes a test from the First Generation Storm Guardian G. His test was to see if he is worth becoming the suitable right-hand man of Tsuna. G. disguised himself as Gokudera while the real Gokudera was left searching for Uri. After the test G. asked Tsuna who is the better right-hand man. Although G. (who disguised as Gokudera) shows a dependable and trustworthy right-hand (this contradicts the behavior of Gokudera), Tsuna still chose Gokudera as his right-hand due to the bonds that they had as friends. G. then accepts Tsuna’s answer and Gokudera passed his test.

In the battle against the Real Funeral Wraiths, Gokudera fought Zakuro in his final form. Here he unleashed his Vongola Box and initiated his Cambio Forma. Uri merges with Gokudera’s weapon and transformed into a bow of immense power. The weapon was called G. Archery.
