Yamamoto Takeshi is a 14-year old student from Namimori Middle School same as Tsuna and Gokudera and also he is the star player of the school’s baseball team, not to mention that he is also popular with the girls in school. He is one of Tsuna’s first friends and Gokudera notes him as an annoying guy (most probably because of carefree and friendly attitude towards Tsuna). He has an out-going and carefree personality. He has confidence in baseball but none in all other things. One time he tried committing suicide after sustaining an injury on his arm. But Tsuna stopped him and in turn became his friend and to Reborn, a new family member. He often treats any mafia-related events as an ordinary game.

Reborn gave Yamamoto a bat during their special training and if Yamamoto swings the bat more than 300 kph, the bat turns into a katana.

Before the Ring Conflict began, Yamamoto was defeated by Squalo, who is a member of the Varia, who is after Basil. Due to this event, Yamamoto went to his father and asked his help to train him in the way of swordsmanship. His father was a master of the Shigure Souen Ryu, but he mocked Yamamoto for treating everything that happened as a game but still taught him the sword style. After the training he obtained a shinai named as Shigure Kintoki from his father that change into a katana only if he uses the Shigure Souen Ryu.

He is appointed as the Vongola Guardian of the Rain and given the Vongola Rain Ring after their first meeting with Squalo in which he was defeated.

At the Ring Conflict, he fought against Squalo inside a room slowly being filled with water. Here he used the Shigure Souen Ryu which he learned from his father. While fighting, Yamamoto learned and used his Shigure Souen Ryu technique and he won.

In the Future arc, the future Yamamoto led Tsuna and Gokudera where Reborn and there they learned that his dad was killed by the Millefiore. Later they went on a search to find their friends, and they met up with the future Haru, I-pin and Lambo who was chased by Nosaru and Tazaru, members of the Black Spell under the Millefiore family. As Yamamoto was about to save them, he suddenly swapped into his teen self. At some point, Yamamoto and Gokudera fought with the top member of the Black Spell which is Ganma but they both lost. Due to that same lost, Yamamoto begins his training for sword skill with Reborn. Also he was given a DVD from Squalo, showing the videos of Squalo winning 100 battles. After watching the video began developing his own techniques where he managed to perfect it and even used it on Reborn.

In their raid on the Millefiore base, Yamamoto encountered one Millefiore’s Funeral Wraiths of the Mist, Genkishi. Using all the techniques and the training that he learned from the past and with Reborn, he fought against Genkishi but sadly he was defeated after falling into one of Genkishi’s illusions.

Before the Choice battle, Yamamoto went on a training with Squalo and there he went serious and took the path of swordsmanship. Yamamoto managed to meet up (again) with Genkishi in his stronger form during the Choice battle. As the two of them fought, Genkishi managed to subdue Yamamoto and attacked him while saying goodbye to him. Yamamoto then unleashed his Vongola Box which contains an Akita dog named Jirou and a blue swallow named Kojirou. Jirou produces 3 short rain katanas in which Yamamoto used to fly and move with it. In the series, Yamamoto is the first to use Cambio Forma. His Cambio Forma is a fusion of Kojiro with his Shigure Kintoki which then formed into a very long katana along with 3 short ones from Jirou which named as Asari Ugetsu, the four irregular swords.

During the Succession arc, Yamamoto took the test from the first generation Rain Guardian Asari Ugetsu and his tutor at that time was Colonello the Rain Arcobaleno. During the test, Asari Ugetsu wanted to show him his weapon but Yamamoto assumed that it was a fight and attacked Asari Ugetsu. Shocked by Yamamoto’s action, Asari Ugetsu dueled with him and when Yamamoto saw an opening, he went in for the kill. Colonello noticed something was wrong and quickly tried to stop Yamamoto but failed. Asari Ugetsu then declares that he failed, but Yamamoto was given a second chance. He lost because of the defeat he got from previous battles, but after a talk from his dad he then learned his mistakes. At the second round of his battle with Asari Ugetsu, Yamamoto managed to see another opening but withdraw himself from attacking. Due to this, he passed the test and given the right to succed Asari Ugetsu’s power.
